Great Cities Series

Calgary and Edmonton are Alberta’s fastest growing cities and home to 70 per cent of Albertans. Rapid urbanization and population growth has placed pressure on the ability of cities to provide needed services and maintain critical infrastructure.

The Calgary Chamber will launch the Great Cities series to coincide with the 2013 civic elections and municipal government act legislative review currently underway in the province. Consisting of five events, the series will raise awareness, generate discussion and advocate for change to strengthen the municipal legislative framework in Alberta.

Information from the series will be combined with research to support a summary report and recommendations along with a communications and advocacy strategy designed to strengthen the legislative and policy frameworks of municipalities in Alberta. The project will be guided by a Task Force of experts and engage community partners across the different sectors of the community.
