Bridging Policy to Practice: Activating Vacant Joint Use and Municipal Reserve Land for Vibrant Communities
The project will dive deep into current policy, barriers, and benefits of activating empty City of Calgary School Reserve, and Municipal Reserve land. With over 100 vacant school reserve sites in the City alone, there are a lot of community benefits that could be generated at sites which are accessible to all Calgarians.
Through interviews with the Joint Use Coordinating Committee, City of Calgary, School Boards, Community Associations, and Real Estate Developers, we will produce a report that summarizes our findings and provides recommendations to advancing the approval of future Public Benefit Compatible Use projects.
As Vacant Lots Farm Club is the first community group given access to a5 acre School Reserve site, we have a unique opportunity to leverage our experiences to benefit the process, stakeholders, and potential outcomes of this work.
